Drumline: A New Beat is set to follow Brooklynite Danielle “Dani” Raymond (Alexandra Shipp) as she gets accepted into Atlanta A&T under the guise of revitalizing their once prominent marching band. However, the decidedly conservative institution has never had a female section leader and Dani faces a lot of pushback when she attempts to assert her position. Not only does she have tension with her cousin Tyree, she falls for fellow bandmate Jayven and finds herself put on the defensive against A&T’s crosstown rivals. Will Dani be able to shatter the glass ceiling that prevents women from rising to prominent positions in the marching band world? Or will all the distractions she’s dealing with prove to be too much to deal with?

In addition to Shipp, Drumline: A New Beat stars Jordan Calloway (Unfabulous), Jeff Pierre (Hollow Tags), LeToya Luckett (Single Ladies), DeRay Davis (21 Jump Street), and Jasmine Burke (Ride Along). Returning from the original film are Leonard Roberts (The Client List) as Sean Taylor, A&T’s new band director, and Cannon as Devon Miles.

“Candidly Nicole has surpassed every goal that we set for the launch,” said Susan Levison, EVP of Original Programming and Production for VH1. “The series increased viewers in its time period by 50 percent, attracted thousands of new viewers to the channel and shared Nicole Richie’s sharp wit and comedic flair for highlighting some of the absurdities of the real world.”

Based on Nicole Richie’s Twitter feed, Candidly Nicole follows the author/actress/television personality on a variety of adventures and allows her to expound her views on topics ranging from style and love to parallel parking. Notably, the show doesn’t feature either of Richie’s children, nor does it spotlight her marriage to rocker Joel Madden; celebrities who get this type of reality show tend to gear it toward their family life, so for Richie to eschew that in favor of something more fun that allows her a sense of privacy is refreshing.

Season two of Candidly Nicole is set to premiere sometime in 2015. There’s been no word yet as to the fates of Dating Naked and LeAnn & Eddie, the other two shows that aired with Candidly Nicole on Thursdays this summer.

The cancellation of Single Ladies came as a surprise, seeing as how it was still performing in the ratings (posting its highest premiere night audience yet this past January) and how it helped VH1 get its foot in the door. However, following the exit of the series’ creator, an 18-month hiatus, and the success of dance team drama Hit the Floor, the series became expendable to the network. As a result, Centric has become the latest network to get itself into the crowded scripted game, though it smartly opted against launching something new and picked up something that will likely resonate with its target audience.

Created by Stacey Littlejohn (The Wanda Sykes Show), Single Ladies follows three friends from different backgrounds as they navigate the trials and tribulations of the Atlanta entertainment scene and their increasingly complicated love lives. The series, which began as a two-hour tele-film, stars LisaRaye McCoy-Misick (The Players Club), Charity Shea (The Best Years), Denise Vasi (All My Children), LeToya Luckett (Treme), and D. B. Woodside (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

There’s no word yet on when the fourth season of Single Ladies will premiere or how many episodes Centric picked it up for.
