The reasoning seems to be Satisfaction had stronger DVR numbers than its lead-in, an important factor considering that the latter was produced by an outside studio whereas the former hails from NBCUniversal’s Universal Cable Productions.

Created by Sean Jablonski (Nip/Tuck), Satisfaction follows married couple Neil (Matt Passmore) and Grace Truman (Stephanie Szostak) as they confront the issues that had been dragging their relationship down. After Neil catches Grace cheating on him with a male escort, he attempts to figure out where their marriage went wrong and how they can get back to where they used to be. The series, which averaged over two million viewers in L+7 numbers, also stars Michelle DeShon (Hollywood Heights), Katherine LaNasa (Deception), and Blair Redford (The Lying Game).

Rush starred Tom Ellis (EastEnders) as Dr. William Rush, a hard-partying medical fixer who served the Los Angeles elite. From Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), the series featured Larenz Tate (Rescue Me), Sarah Habel (Underemployed), and Rick Gonzalez (Reaper).

Production on the 10-episode second season of Satisfaction should begin next year, with the series likely returning that summer.

Satisfaction joins a scripted lineup that includes conspiracy drama Dig, EMT comedy Sirens, and legal drama Suits, with decisions on Graceland, Royal Pains, Covert Affairs, and Playing House still to be made.

What did you think about the first season of Satisfaction? Are you surprised that USA opted to cancel Rush? How long will it be before we hear about the fates of the other USA series?

From Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), Rush tells the story of renegade physician Dr. William Rush (Tom Ellis), who works as a medical fixer for the Los Angeles elite. Although he tries to keep his distance from the shenanigan his clients go through, he soon finds himself being consumed by the ugliness of the industry he’s chosen to make his living in. In addition to Ellis, the series stars Larenz Tate (Rescue Me) and Nicholas Gonzalez (Sleepy Hollow).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BePmjGqntpk

Created by Matt Nix (Burn Notice), Complications follows disillusioned suburban ER doctor John Ellis (Jason O’Mara) as his life gets transformed by a single incident he wasn’t prepared for. After intervening in a drive-by shooting and killing one of the attackers, he learns that the young boy he saved is still being targeted for death; though he vows to protect the boy at any cost, his views on life and medicine begin to shift almost immediately, possibly causing a fundamental shift in who he is as both a man and a doctor. In addition to O’Mara, Complications stars Beth Riesgraf (Leverage), Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl), and Demetrius Grosse (Banshee).

Satisfaction finds married couple Neil (Matt Passmore) and Grace Truman (Stephanie Szotak) struggling with questions about their relationship and battling with the idea that having it all might not be enough to keep them together. In addition to Passmore and Szotak, Satisfaction stars Blair Redford (The Lying Game), Katherine LaNasa (Deception), and Michelle DeShon (Hollywood Heights).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmFBn40vjhI

While Complications doesn’t have a premiere date as of yet, Rush is set to premiere Thursday, July 17th at 9:00, with Satisfaction following at 10:00.

Which upcoming USA drama will you be watching? Do you think something like Satisfaction, which appears especially off-brand from the typical USA drama, can find an audience? Should USA have paired both new dramas with something established this summer?

Tuesdays this summer will be filled by Royal Pains, which premieres its sixth season (and first on Tuesdays) June 10th, and Covert Affairs, whose fifth season is slated to begin June 24th. Meanwhile, Wednesdays finds a relocated dramas Suits and Graceland, both of whom aired on Thursdays this past summer; both series will premiere June 11th.

Finally, the network is utilizing an unusual maneuver by pairing new dramas Rush and Satisfaction on Thursdays beginning July 17th. The former tells the story of Dr. William Rush (Tom Ellis), a medical fixer charged with catering to the Los Angeles elite. In addition to Ellis, the series stars Rick Gonzalez. The latter, meanwhile, is said to delve into the unusual choices a married couple (Matt Passmore, Stephanie Szostak) make in the name of preserving their marriage and keeping their connection alive. The series also stars Blair Redford, Katherine LaNasa, and Michelle DeShon.

What will you be watching on USA this summer? Do you think either Rush or Satisfaction will breakout for the network? Is Suits going to be able to boost the ratings of Graceland?

Tuesdays
