Fred Armisen to Join Seth Meyers on Late Night

Late Night might as well be the new SNL, as Seth Meyers has found his partner for his new show in Fred Armisen.

Meyers announced via Twitter this afternoon that he’s bringing his fellow Saturday Night Live vet with him to Late Night as his band leader. Said the new Late Night host: “Fred will curate and lead the band, and continute to run it even when he’s off shooting Portlandia,” along with hashtag “8GBand.”

The announcement lands Armisen in the company of other late night talk show sidekicks including Letterman’s Paul Shaffer, Conan’s Andy Richter, and Craig Ferguson’s animatronic Geoff Peterson.

Late Night with Seth Meyers premieres Monday, February 24th. Meyers will be stepping into Jimmy Fallon’s place as he is taking over The Tonight Show after Jay Leno’s exit last Thursday.

Kerry Washington to Host Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live is sure to be “handled” when Kerry Washington makes her hosting debut on the sketch show next month.

Washington is sure making the TV rounds, and will arrive at Rockefeller to host the comedy show on November 2nd, NBC announced on Wednesday. Eminem will be joining her, in his sixth take as an SNL musical guest.

We know Washington kills it in dramas, but we’ll have to wait and see how she fares with sketch comedy. Is anyone else predicting a government-centric opening sketch?

NBC previously announced that actor Edward Norton will host on October 26th, with musical guest Janelle Monáe.

SNL Taps Cecily Strong to Co-Anchor Weekend Update

Beginning with Saturday Night Live‘s Season 39 premiere on September 28th, Cecily Strong will be joining veteran Seth Meyers at the Weekend Update desk.

SNL head Lorne Michaels first told the news to the New York Times, adding “Cecily, from the first show, was right there,” speaking highly of Strong’s first year with the sketch show.

It is possible that Strong will one day go solo on Weekend Update, as Meyers will be leaving SNL in February to host NBC’s Late Night four days a week, but Michaels has been unclear. Possibly hoping that Meyers will double-up on shows while not hosting Late Night on Fridays.

Cecily Strong is known for her SNL character – the Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party.

Tina Fey to Host Saturday Night Live Premiere

She’s not just a performer anymore – Tina Fey will be returning to Rockefeller Center to host Saturday Night Live’s season 39 premiere, NBC announced Monday morning.

This will be Fey’s fourth hosting gig for SNL since her departure as a regular cast member in 2006.

Arcade Fire will be the musical guest for the night, when the show returns on September 28^th.

Also hosting SNL during the upcoming season will be Miley Cyrus (who will also be the musical act) on October 5^th, and Bruce Willis on October 12^th. Katy Perry will be accompanying Willis as the musical guest.
