Red Band Society Series Premiere Sneak Peeks: We Band of Brothers

Though your teenage years are said to be the best of your life, a time when you get to explore who you are without having any of the responsibilities of adulthood, they’re more often defined by fraught emotions, identity crises, peer pressure, and the struggle to find your identity while conforming enough to the norm so as to avoid being ridiculed. Being a teenager is inherently tough and any outside circumstances can only make things more difficult.

On the series premiere of Red Band Society, a group of teenagers live together in a hospital pediatric wing and try to find some sense of normalcy. Their setting might be different than the average person their age, but the kids living in Ocean Park Hospital all experience much of what they would had they not gotten sick – they find love, they try to figure out who they are, they question everything from mortality to their futures should they come out on top against their respective ailments. While there are pivotal events they’re missing out on by being where they are, the hospital environment might not be the obstacle to social growth and self-actualization that it might seem to be at first glance.

The series premiere of Red Band Society is set to premiere Wednesday, September 17th at 9:00 on FOX.

Red Band Society: Mandy Moore to Recur

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress/singer Mandy Moore (Grey’s Anatomy) is slated to recur on upcoming FOX dramedy Red Band Society. She’s set to play Erin Grace, the chief of staff at the hospital the series is set at. Her character will also serve as Dr. McAndrew’s (Dave Annable) ex.

Created by Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire), Red Band Society tells the story of a group of teenagers living in the pediatric wing of a hospital. Though they might not be able to have exactly the same experiences as their peers, they’re still exposed to the same trials and tribulations that go along with being a teenager. The series stars Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help), Charlie Rowe (The Golden Compass), Griffin Gluck (Back in the Game), Nolan Sotillo (Prom), and Ciara Bravo (Big Time Rush).

In addition to her memorable role on the ABC soap, Moore has appeared on the likes of Entourage and Scrubs while lending her voice to High School USA!, The Simpsons, and Sheriff Callie’s Wild West. She has also been a part of CBS pilots for the past two development seasons, though neither were picked up to series.

Red Band Society will premiere Wednesday, September 17th at 9:00 on FOX. You can check out a preview for the series below.

Watch Selfie, A to Z, Red Band Society, and Forever Pilots Here

As the fall season quickly approaches, it’s time for the networks to begin the recent practice of releasing certain pilots early. Generally, this is done in order to increase sampling and get the word out about shows that might be difficult to market or too quiet to make a splash in the crowded fall and that’s true this year, as each of the four shows that’ve had their pilots released face certain issues ahead of their debut.

Created by Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory), Selfie stars Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as vapid Eliza Dooley, a woman so consumed with her social media presence that she’s kind of forgotten how to interact with people in her real life. Desperate to stamp out the loneliness she’s feeling, she contacts marketing guru Henry Higenbottam (John Cho) in hopes of rebranding herself. Starring Ben Feldman (Mad Men) and Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother), A to Z follows Andrew, who works at an internet dating company, and lawyer Zelda as they meet and cautiously begin a relationship despite the vast differences that exit between them.

From Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire), Red Band Society centers on a group of teenagers who live together in a pediatric hospital wing. Despite the abnormality of their situation, though, they experience many of the same feelings and mile-markers that their healthier peers do. Finally, Forever follows star medical examiner Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) as he tries to hide the secret of his immortality from his co-workers and uses his vast experience in the medical field to impress his new partner Jo Martinez (Alana De La Garza). The show also features Judd Hirsch (Damages), Lorraine Touissant (Orange Is the New Black), and Joel David Moore (Hatchet).

Selfie premieres Tuesday, September 30th at 8:00 on ABC, with A to Z debuting Thursday, October 2nd at 9:30 on NBC. Red Band Society will have its television premiere on Wednesday, September 17th at 9:00 on FX, while Forever will get a sneak preview behind Dancing with the Stars on September 22nd before settling into its Tuesdays at 10:00 slot on September 23rd. Each pilot is also available on their network’s respective website, as well as various on-demand outlets.
