Maher will be guest starring as the evil Mark Scheffer, better known to DC Comics fans as the supervillain Shrapnel – a serial bomber who puts Sterling City in a panic, threatening the life of Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro).

In the universe of DC Comics, Shrapnel’s backstory isn’t completely known, though it has past been established that he was once married with two daughters.  Shrapnel is made of metal (as his name would indicate) and weilds powers of superhuman strength and stamina.

Maher is also the second Firefly alum to join Arrow, as Summer Glau was previously cast in a recurring role.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 PM on The CW.

Roy Harper is a fictionalsuperhero in the DC ComicsUniverse. He was known for over fifty years as Green Arrow‘s teenage sidekick Speedy. He first appeared alongside his mentor in More Fun Comics #73 (November 1941). The modern-day version, an early member of the Teen Titans, later assumed the identity of Arsenal and became a member of the Justice League of America under the guise of Red Arrow.^[1] After being maimed by supervillain Prometheus and the death of his daughter, Harper left the League and becomes Arsenal once more.

While the show certainly isn’t sticking like glue to the lore of Green Arrow, it would be hard to look past over 70 years of sidekick asskicking, wouldn’t it? According to the TV Guide article, the idea is Harper will cross paths with and provide a love interest for Willa Holland’s Thea (coincidentally also nicknamed Speedy…I don’t even want to think about the possibilities of their love life!) and then is “destined to become a significant part of her life and an important player in the larger world of Arrow.”

We’ll tastefully ignore the parts of Roy Harper’s later years that indicate he got addicted to heroin, had a child by someone other than Thea, blah blah blah, and assume that his relationship with our Oliver Queen sets him on the path to righteousness. It’s our world, after all!

Colton Haynes certainly has the acting skills to take on a role with many sides, as the the snarky, mean, sometimes kind and always emotional Jackson on Teen Wolf. Even when he was playing the bad boy, there was something in his performance that made the audience yearn for him to make it back to the good side. It will be great to see him in action again, and bringing another gorgeous face to the canvas of Arrow is icing on the cake.

Have I been watching Arrow with all the intensity of the rest of the world? Nope. Somehow the more excited everyone is about a show, the higher my expectations. I’ve decided to overcome my personal barriers and judge the show based on its merits. What a concept!

“An Innocent Man” had some moments that turned my head. Up to now, Oliver Queen has been operating solo. After getting his bodyguard shot and blowing his cover, he was given the unique opportunity to offer an olive branch to John Diggle by way of an opportunity too good to pass up. To join the Arrow to right the wrongs done by Oliver’s family and to Diggle’s family in their own way. If the police and government won’t made a difference, then they’ll take matters into their own hands.

Diggle has seen what Oliver can do as Arrow. He misses being on the side of good and making a difference. Will he join Oliver in his quest to restore morality to Starling City?

Laurel was almost swayed to the side of good this week. Despite the many warnings of her father that vigilantism isn’t justice and must be stopped at all costs, Laurel was confused about things in Starling City and the justice system in general. I don’t know what she saw in his eyes at the prison that she mistook for lack of regret. If she had any clue how close he came to starving on the island because he didn’t want to kill a bird even to eat, she would have seen him differently.

Laurel’s hesitation lead her father to make a shocking discovery. He saw Oliver Queen entering the prison. Will his arrest truly out him as Arrow? I’m betting it’s too early for confirmation, and they’ll be chasing leads for a while to come. Might John Diggle don the costume while Oliver is retained to throw off the scent? In any event, Detective Lance will do everything in his power to keep his beloved daughter away from Oliver Queen and that will cause the smile we saw on his face to be rather fleeting.

Finally, the other big reveal was  due to Walter’s innate distrust of Moira. I don’t know how she thought just flinging the $2.6 million amount out in casual conversation would appease her husband as a done deal into the search for missing funds, but Steele is no pushover. One thing is certain, he had no idea what he would find in the warehouse. Now that he knows Moira had the wrecked ship in her possession for years, what will he make of it?

Episode four was what I needed. An envelope pusher. It tipped the scales away from comic book fodder and upped the stakes enough that not only want to tune in, I have to.

Upon his return to Starling City, Oliver is determined to right the wrongs done to his family and return the city to its former glory, with only his chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle (Ramsey) knowing his secret. Being a billionaire by day and a vigilante by night is not as easy as it looks, however. Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance (Blackstone) is dead set on bringing down Starling City’s would-be guardian and Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows more about his time on the island than he could imagine and might turn out to be one of his biggest adversaries.

Airing on the CW Network in association with Berlanti Production and Warner Brothers Television, Arrow premiered on October 10, 2012 and a full season was ordered on October 22, 2012.
