spartacusStarz has released a preview for the final season of Spartacus and after watching it, you get the idea that War of the Damned will be the biggest, boldest, and bloodiest season of the franchise yet.

In the preview, the stakes for the season have been set. The rebel army, led by “Champion of Capua” Spartacus, has amassed in numbers following their thrilling defeat of Glaber; they’re no longer the ragtag group of slaves that had little to no fighting training and fended off wave after wave of soldiers through sheer force of will. They’re a truly scary lethal machine that has only grown in ability and confidence since Glaber was taken out, so they’d be a headache for any Roman leader to try and take care of.

Standing in the army’s way are two extremely powerful, intelligent men that would like nothing more than to have their heads mounted on the dining room wall. Future Roman emperor Julius Caesar will be providing the majority of the strategy and the thought behind the action of the soldiers; in the preview, Caesar is mentioned as being the only foe the army has faced that understands their mind and fighting style. Meanwhile, noted businessman Marcus Crassus, thought to be one of the richest men in the world, will be providing more in the way of financial support for the endeavor against the army. The band of slaves managed to bring down many a man last season and it’s going to take a tremendous effort for Spartacus and company to be defeated once and for all.

Spartacus: War of the Damned premieres Friday, January 25th at 9:00 on Starz.
